After recently opening its new tasting room in downtown Healdsburg, Murphy-Goode has set up a modern, chic atmosphere where visitors can walk in off the plaza and sample some of Murphy-Goode’s well established wines.
For $5 you can taste 5 of Murphy Goode’s Reserve Wines, which include fun names like Liar’s Dice Zinfandel, All In Claret, and The Fume. The nod to gambling comes from founder Tim Murphy’s childhood days spent playing Liar’s Dice with friends at the local country store. Dave Ready Jr., son of founder Dave Ready Sr., has been the winemaker since 2001. Best Known wines are Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, and Liar’s Dice Sonoma County Zinfandel.
The tasting room is accented by beige and purple hues, with high ceilings and exposed pipes. There are hardly any knickknacks for sale or extra decor (except for a few photographs on the wall), which gives the tasting room a more open and uncluttered feel.
As a teenager playing in rock bands in Minneapolis, Dave Ready Jr. always dreamed of becoming a rock star. Nowadays, he likens winemaki ng to composing lyrics, explaining "You need to let the wine show what it has in its soul." The tasting room is open from 10:30 am to 5:30 pm daily and private tastings can be arranged in the Healdsburg tasting room. Call for an appointment.
