Why should you consider wine tasting at Napa Cellars?
In the rolling valley of Napa, there is a geodesic dome situated in miles of green vineyards. This is the original Napa Cellars building, a work commissioned in 1976 by Charlie Woods. It’s an art-deco lobby that resembles a hobbit-hole. This is attached to a taller vine-covered more-traditionally shaped building.
Other buildings have been added to the land in their 40 years of continuous operation, but they have not changed the love of Napa’s unique land. The owners believe that the sunny weather combines with marine breezes and a wide array of soils make this a great place to grow terroir-driven wines. Each bottle is an expression of the land it came from.
To see the land that the wine expresses, you will have to make a reservation. However, it is worth the call. They will provide a flight of limited-release wines, and you will be able to enjoy them on their oak-shaded picnic tables and sit among the miles of vibrant vines. Napa Cellars does charge extra for outside picnic food, but you might just want to sign up for artisan food and wine pairings instead. Of course, you can also take your tasting inside the geodesic dome. The red brick flooring reflects off the hanging glasses here, and you will enjoy the eclectic décor while you sample. They also offer educational wine seminars sometimes as well.
Napa Cellars wants to showcase Napa, both through its wines and through its tasting experiences. Be sure to call ahead for a quintessential Napa experience if you are in the area.
