Why should you visit Pangloss Cellars when you are in the Sonoma Valley?
The town square in Sonoma is beautiful, being part of the state’s founding. It isn’t just the history that is so alluring, though: the buildings overlooking the idyllic green are over 100 years old and carry the optimism of a budding nation. This is why the founders of Pangloss Cellars fell in love with a wood-and-stone building on the square. They named their winery and wine label after Dr. Pangloss, the character in Voltaire’s novel who is always looking on the bright side.
And the owners were determined that their tasting room would reflect the bright side of Sonoma County. The 4,000 square foot architectural marvel has a restored redwood and glass storefront, and the interior stone walls and hand-sawn wood beams have been carefully brought back by loving restorers.
Here, Pangloss Cellars serves the wines they create from the Sonoma grapes with Old-World techniques. Capitalizing on French oak barrels and hand-picked grapes, the wines celebrate the diversity of Sonoma grape varietals just as the building celebrates the history of Sonoma.
You can imbibe this architectural pleasure along with their wines and their optimistic attitude in the bar and the lounge. Don’t worry about fitting in: Pangloss aims to personalize each experience and they have more than enough room to do so. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly in both spaces, and you will soon be sharing the Panglossian attitude if you give either a try.
Pangloss hits all the high notes with popular varietals like Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc. Whether you are an “all-red” kind of drinker or prefer your whites, the Pangless Cellars tasting room has wonderful options for you.
