About This Winery
+ More
Approaching Peju (pronounced “pay-shew”) Province Winery, you will be greeted by a row of unusually pruned 40-foot sycamore trees. The road leads past the trees to the winery’s extensive gardens and numerous fountains.
The very distinct castle-like structure resembles a French provincial tower; it encloses 1,600 square feet, including a mezzanine, and is built from stucco and stone. The posts and beams are made of lumber salvaged from old Midwestern barns, and the roof is made of weathered copper. The 50-foot tower room is the site of your tasting experience and is graced with a dramatic turnoff the century 10-foot-by-20-foot stained-glass window. The tasting bar is made of Brazilian cherry, and the floor tiles were imported from Turkey. The room has a small quantity of high-quality items for sale, plus an extensive cookbook and wine-book collection.
The Peju family pairs their love of wine with their love of food by incorporating a full-size gourmet commercial kitchen on the winery property. This kitchen provides the cuisine for regular wine-and-food pairings, as well as for a four-course gourmet feast available seasonally on their terrace (call for availability). The kitchen also provides a location for cooking classes and other culinary events.
Peju wines are sold at a few premium wine shops and at the winery. The family makes an array of superior classic wines from their Rutherford and Pope Valley vineyards, and they are currently planting an additional 86 acres on their Dutch Henry Canyon property near Calistoga. They produce Chardonnay and French Colombard, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Carignane, Zinfandel and Zinfandel Port.
