History, hiking and fine wine; Pichetti Winery has it all! Located mere minutes from major highways and the quaint town of Saratoga, Pichetti Winery beckons to those seeking a tasting excursion proximate to the South Bay that has all the features of a Napa winery without the drive.
Pichetti Winery is one of the oldest wineries in California, dating back to 1886. The tasting room itself is located in a federally recognized historic building; in fact, all buildings on the winery site are included on the National Register of Historic Places. The winery site is owned by the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space, who leases the property to proprietor Leslie Pantling. So as you might imagine, in addition to learning about the past, you can also take in the present and enjoy the magnificent views that can be found on the numerous hiking trails that branch out from the winery site.
But what about the wine you ask? The tasting room is housed in a magnificent brick building with craft fully built wooden tasting bars. The staff is welcoming and warm and happily serves you your choice of wines from their vast tasting list, which includes a White Port that is definitely worth a try and is a nice change from the standard ruby and tawny ports. If all of these tasting options leave you hungry, fear not as Pichetti Winery offers a number of food items for purchase, which can be consumed in the comfort of their vast picnic area. For an afternoon of wine tasting, relaxation, history and hiking, there is no better place than Pichetti Winery.
