+ More
Pomar Junction makes rich Bordeaux and Rhone style wines from their family run estate near Templeton. The vineyard and Tasting Room is located at the “junction” of El Pomar and South El Pomar Drives, in the El Pomar District of the Paso Robles viticultural appellation.
Owners Dana and Marsha Merrill, and son Mathew farm their sustainable vineyards growing Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Viognier. The family’s agricultural heritage goes back at least eight generations. Dana Merrill has held positions as the Chairman of the California Association of Wine grapes Growers and a charter member of the Central Coast Vineyard Team and a past Director of the Paso Robles Wine Country Alliance.
Pomar Junction’s history harkens back to Templeton at the turn of the century, when the El Pomar District was known for almond and fruit orchards, along with a few wine grapes. The Southern Pacific Railroad reached Templeton with its coastal lines and built the town. Marsha Merrill’s grandfather, George Gregg, was a longtime Southern Pacific Engineer. To honor that heritage, the Merrill’s have relocated a boxcar and cupola Caboose adjacent to the tasting room.
Marsha Merrill restored the long neglected 1920’s vintage farmhouse on the property, saving the original knotty pine and red oak hardwood floors. Her passion for art and color are reflected in the gifts she has selected for sale and in the Canvas Series of wines that feature local artists’s works as wine labels.
Check out the caboose, boxcar and antique farm equipment on the property and enjoy the picnic areas and panoramic views.
