This winery is a one-woman show where the owner grows the grapes, drives the tractor, makes the wine, paints the labels, bottles the finished product, and runs the tasting room. An artistic flair permeates the place, the wines and the people.
As you take the turn off River Road you pass through the attractive entry and head up the narrow drive to the wood sided winery sitting up on a small knoll. Inside the tasting room you are awash in brightly colored walls, floors and exotic artwork. The winery uses the prehistoric Kokopelli figure as their brand logo and philosophy of peace and harmony. Often depicted as a humpbacked flute player, this mythic being has survived in recognizable form from Anasazi times to the present. The label designs are created by the owner in her art studio above the tasting room. The label art is on display in a space adjacent to the tasting bar.
Just outside the tasting room the winery has a large event patio looking out over the Salinas River valley and the vineyard. All the wines are estate grown and focus on the Bordeaux varietals; Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petite Verdot, Semillon, and Sauvignon Blanc as well as the native Zinfandel, where late harvest and port versions are made.
In the tasting room you have the opportunity to taste older vintages as most of the wines are not released until after 3 ½ years of barrel ageing. The winemaker uses tight-grained Hungarian and French barrels to give the wines a soft, silky and elegant finish.
