About This Winery
Hand-crafted Spanish Varietals
+ More
Riaza Wines are dedicated to creating handcrafted Spanish wines from distinctive vineyards in Lodi, Clarksburg and the Sierra Foothills. They focus on crafting traditional wines from varietals that you might not expect to find in the Lodi area. Riaza strives to make wines that are traditionally, authentically Spanish.
The process begins in the vineyard, where the wine-makers choose grapes that are a little off the beaten path. Every varietal at Riaza has roots that can be traced back to Spain. Some varietals are well known, like Albariño and Tempranillo. Others like Graciano and Verdejo are less known. The climate in Lodi AVA is ideal for Spanish varietals; the Mediterranean weather is perfect for those grapes that originated from the Iberian Peninsula.
In 2010, Riaza Wines made just a hair over 350 cases of wine (working with Albariño, Garnacha, Graciano and Tempranillo). For 2011, they were able to bump that up to nearly 550 cases (adding Moscatel, Torrontes and Monastrell to the mix). And while they are still fine-tuning the plan for this year, the winery plans to produce about 600 cases. Being a small winery, Riaza welcomes visitors to come taste their delicious, well-crafted Spanish wines.
