Rotta Winery, founded in 1908 by the Rotta Family, is the only remaining family owned “original” winery in San Luis Obispo County. Mike Giubbini, grandson to the Rotta Family & Mark Caporale of Napa, have combined their talents to “bring back to life” the historic and rustic winery.
The original vineyard and winery were started in 1856 by a Frenchman named Adolph Siot, who later sold the successful enterprise to Joe Rotta in 1908. In the 1920s, Rotta then sold it to his brother Clement Rotta, who bonded the winery after Prohibition in the 1930s and forged the label into one best known for its hearty Zinfandels.
Rotta label is focusing on red wines such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Merlot, and Black Monukka– a dessert wine and Zinfandel Port. A Chardonnay is also produced. The 20-acre dry-farmed Rotta estate vineyard has 15 acres in Zinfandel and five in Cabernet Sauvignon.  See video at VineStories.
The new tasting room is now open in a new building at the site of the old winery. The place is not far off the road located in a country setting. There is a large patio out front of the tasting room and a charming and cozy experience inside. The room is made from reclaimed wood and is warm and inviting. The wines are rich and flavorful and made with a fruit-forward style. The Estate Zinfandel is their flagship wine and should not be missed.

Great stop in the back hills of Paso. The cozy little tasting room was full of people but we got great service and tasted some dandy wines, especially the Zin. Muscat was also a nice treat to finish off the tasting.

A small but quaint tasting room inside a barn like structure, very friendly staff and quality wine. Enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and very close to the 101 freeway.

Nice Winery with Great People, Visited yesterday and Mike the owner and his family were on hand to great people. I believe they were bottling Chardonnay. I purchased the Black Manukka dessert wine, it is so unique and what nice people. Try the dry farmed zins also.

Got there early before the crowed came in and enjoyed our visit. The staff was friendly and I felt at home. Established an appreciation for Zinfandel Rose during my visit and also enjoy their "Trinity" blend. Very much recommended.

We only had one day in Paso but I am so glad we stopped here. Every wine on their list was fantastic and well priced. The dessert wines are wonderful, don't miss them. I also enjoyed their Rose and my husband discovered a new love of Cab Franc. We had never joined a wine club before but had to become members here. Everyone was very knowledgeable and friendly, and we can't wait to go back!

One of the oldest wineries around is worth a stop for their dry farmed Zin and their Merlot. The place is small, attractive and the wines are all worth it. Our favorite had to be the reds and their dessert wine.

We liked this stop due to its very good people, their brand new facility and their good wines. They dry farm their vineyards and it makes a difference in the flavor of their wines. The winery is some 100 years old and has some interesting history. Will come back.

As the flight menu was long, it took time for people to finish tasting and leave. It wasn't much fun waiting for my turn in the rather small tasting room since there wasn't really anything else to do but stand there. The staff was friendly, but no wine unfortunately gave me the OMG :-(
