Boutique wineries are becoming somewhat scarce, but Sapphire Hill in Healdsburg is proud to be one of that breed. They started producing in 1989, and they have been making fine Chardonnays, Pinots and Zinfandels from grapes grown in the Healdsburg appellations ever since. Recently they started making white blends, Italian blends and Cabernet-based blends, too.

Sapphire Hill Vineyards and Winery takes great pride in the quality of the wines. They sometimes can only make 48 cases of a particular type, but each bottle is something that the owners would joyfully share with their closest friends and family. Add to this their enthusiastic cooking of food to pair with your wine, and you have great hosts for anytime. This makes them a must visit on any tour of the Healdsburg area.

If you want to experience their hosting first hand, come to their bar in Healdsburg. You will know it by the corrugated tin front and blue sign. You’ll find that they serve seasonal bites, including a fabulous jalapeno brownie and salted caramel brownie, with their wines. If you are a foodie, however, you might want to call ahead and schedule a Five Course Food and Wine Pairing. These only happen on weekends and they are always booked months in advance, but it is worth it for their care and attention to detail. Plus, dessert is dark chocolate raspberry jalapeno brownies with salted caramel: yum!
