Lodi, California is home to a brick building that serves the delicious wines of Scotto Cellars. The tasting room features the wines of one branch of a truly historic wine family.
This family-run business is all about celebrating community and good times. Five generations of Scottos have been making wine. Back in 1883, Salvatore Dominic Scotto made his wine for his neighbors in Italy. By the 1940’s, the family was in America, selling their wine by the jug from a pushcart in New York. In 1963, the family came to California and started spreading their wine love throughout California. These days, everyone appreciates this family’s skills. Their Rare Red wine was voted Impact Hot Prospect Brand two years in a row.
Besides being an immigrant success story, Scotto Cellars is a source of great table and dessert wines. Their Chocolate Cuvée and Sweet Sunset are a must for after dinner. Their Villa Armando wine brand has actually been commercially sold for 3 generations now. This wine is the table wine for lovers of traditional mellow red wines and has been since 1948.
The winery now sells wines under a number of different brands. The brands include Brownstone, Rare Revolution, Anthony and Dominic and Heavyweight. Many of the wine brands pay homage to the history of the family. The Brownstone brand name is in memory of the apartment buildings in New York where earlier generates of the Scotto family lived. There is a N.A.P.A brand. The letters are the first initial of the fifth generation Scotto winemakers Natalie, Anthony, Paul and Anne.
The love of family and history is strong at this winery. The wines are easy drinkers at affordable price points. This to is part of the family legacy of making unpretentious wines that please the masses. Stop by Scotto to find out what has kept wine lovers coming back for all these years!
