The low down on Shadow Run Vineyard and Winery. If you happen to be riding your horse around Creston, California, and suddenly develop the urge to sip wine in an informal farmhouse, you will find yourself in good company. Just follow the winding hills to the 150-acre ranch fronted by a black metal gate. A little brown farmhouse sits in the shade of oaks. Brick walls decorated with stone signs guide you through the meandering paths, where you will see deer and turkeys fluttering about the wildly beautiful landscape. The ranch has large swathes dedicated to its wild state. Within this you will find simple wooden picnic tables and elegantly carved stone benches, and, of course, the rows of lush grape vines creeping along the sides of the valley. You’ll even find a hitching post for your horse.
To get down to sipping the fine wines that Shadow Run produces, you step into the spare, airy tasting room. The tables are made with polished wooden planks that they lay over wine barrels. Pale walls and high windows give you the feeling of endless horizons. You can sit out on the patio and look over the beautiful Huer Huero River valley and the undulating fields. Don’t forget to pet the wine dogs, spunky little Sam and sweet Hector, while you are at it. The laid-back, informal atmosphere lets you sip your cares away as easily as if you were home.
When you are wine tasting at Shadow run you will have a chance to sample their Viognier, Syrahs and Petite Sirah. The also have a Rose you can try.
The winery runs a blog and Youtube channel. These are great places to learn more about the winery and to learn more about wine in general.
