About This Winery
+ More
Sones Cellars, named after the winery’s proprietors, Michael and Lois Sones is a family run affair, and truly born out of love. Michael and Lois met on a cruise ship in the mid 1980s, where they realized their mutual admiration and enjoyment of wine. After Michael studied Fermentation Science at the University of California at Davis, the couple ultimately found there home in Santa Cruz. Sones Cellars was established in 2003, and produces small quantities of handcrafted wine from grape varietals that flourish in California. These wines include Zinfandel, Petit Sirah, Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc and their flagship Pinot Noir from the French Camp Vineyard in Paso Robles, California.
The winery’s tasting room can be found on the west side of Santa Cruz in a hip industrial center that is home to numerous wineries. If you need a bite to eat before enjoying Sones Cellar’s wines, there are a number of eating establishments and a local organic market within walking distance of the tasting room. Sones Cellars is cozy and warm, and the wood tasting bar and smiling faces behind the bar beckon you to come in and stay for awhile. Sones Cellars truly is a family run affair, and Michael or Lois will probably be the one to pour you some of their wine to enjoy, while they chat with you about everything that their winery and Santa Cruz has to offer.
