About This Winery
+ More
Robert Skalli is a third-generation French winemaker who was inspired by the similarities between Napa Valley and the wine-growing regions of his home. In 1982, he purchased 1,500 acres of land in northeastern Napa Valley and developed a vineyard with classic Bordeaux varieties. A few years later he added to his holding by purchasing the 35-acre Rutherford Estate, and in 1988 built the winery.
The original 1882 Victorian home on the Rutherford Estate is a historic landmark named “Atkinson House” after its original owners. A French winemaker named Edward St. Supéry later purchased the property and lived in the Atkinson House. When choosing a name for the winery, St. Supéry was selected.
Adjacent to the historic house is the modern concrete winery and tasting room. This “destination winery” has an extensive art gallery above the spacious tasting room, featuring seasonal exhibits by local and internationally renowned artists. Visitors are welcome at any time to take the self-guided tour from the gallery level. A map guides visitors to interesting exhibits, and explanatory reader boards are at each point of interest. There are windows that look down into the winery operation. Don’t miss the Sensory Evaluation Kiosk (known as “smell-a-vision”) up in the gallery to take in some of the characteristic aromas of their wines.
St. Supery’s trademark varietals are Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon. All wines are made from estate fruit. Several smaller lots of wines are produced that are available only through the winery. In total there are 18 different wines made.
