About This Winery
+ More
The history of Sutter Home Winery dates back to the late 1800’s, when a Swiss-German immigrant named John Thomann established a small winery and distillery in the heart of California’s Napa Valley.
In 1947 the Trinchero family purchased the winery and created the second-largest independent family-run winery in the U.S. Its creation of White Zinfandel in the early 1970s and the introduction of high-quality, affordably priced varietal wines during the 1980s and 1990s made Sutter Home a household name. Today the winery boasts over a dozen offerings, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Merlot, red proprietary blend, Rose, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Muscat, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, White Zinfandel, White Merlot and White Cabernet.
The winery and tasting room is situated alongside the road; it shares the property with their lovely gardens and the original Victorian house that now serves as winery offices. You are welcome to take the self-guided tour of their gardens, which are adorned with roses, walkways and two gigantic palm trees.
Inside the large, spacious tasting room are a long tasting bar and a full gift shop carrying gourmet foods and wine accessories. In the back is an additional tasting room with photographs of old Napa Valley. The tasting is complimentary, and the wines are consumer-friendly and a good value.
