If you’re looking for a little bit of history with your wine, than Thacher Winery is the place for you! Thacher Winery is located on the Kentucky Ranch, which is symbolized by the “KR” on the owner’s barn. Kentucky Ranch is a well-known landmark of old time Paso Robles and the vineyard and gardens that once thrived on the property were part of a 4,000 acre Spanish Land Grant until 1869 after which it became a thriving horse breeding operation.
Thacher Winery’s owners, Sherman and Michelle purchased the ranch in 2004. The ranch includes the 1920’s KR barn, outbuildings, the owner’s residence, barley fields and riparian habitat for deer, coyotes, bobcats, turkeys and the occasional mountain lion. The vineyard was planted in Spring of 2007, and the planted varietals include zinfandel and petit syrah. Construction of the tasting room and winery is now complete and visitors are welcomed to stop on in and see all that the winery has to offer.
The tasting room for the winery is small and welcoming and you getting the feeling of being in a friend’s home the moment you walk in the door. The tasting bar is elegant and constructed of copper and you will likely find Michelle or Sherman behind the bar to offer you a sip of one of their wines. If you’re hungry, Thacher Winery also offers a nice assortment of cheese and crackers that you can enjoy under the trees at one of the winery’s picnic tables.

Rating Entries

This is one of our favorite wineries. Thacher has consistently produced wonderful wines that have evolved over time. And, certain wines continue to hold their place such as Triumvirate, crafted with care.

The grounds are beautiful and the tasting room is wonderful including Dani and the staff. Don't hesitate to bring family and picnic on the outside tables. We took our elderly parents there and they thought it was wonderful.

The "Triumvirate" & "Will's Hills" Zins are not to be missed by any Zin lover. The people here are way friendly & just make it a joy to taste here. The fact that it's set in paradise doesn't hurt, either.

We were tasting on the west side of Paso Robles when we stumbled upon this new winery. It was really nice to be able to purchase some food to enjoy with our wine, and the owners were very knowledgeable and friendly.
