About This Winery
+ More
Right along the side of the road is the brown adobe-sided, tile-roofed tasting room of Wilderotter Vineyards. This classy micro-boutique winery with the odd name makes Syrah, Zinfandel, Barbera, Cabernet Sauvignon, Viognier, Roussanne, Sauvignon Blanc and Grenache Rose.
Wilderotter is German for Wild Red. The husband-and-wife owners started growing grapes in the region in 1990, selling their fruit to local wineries. In 2001, they branched out and made a few barrels of very successful Zinfandel and Syrah. Since then they have been slowly expanding their production, currently reaching just over 2,000 cases.
In 2004, they built their small but very appealing tasting room that offers visitors secluded patios, dramatic artwork and local hospitality. All the wines are currently
estate-grown, with the exception of their Napa-Valley-sourced Cabernet Sauvignon. The winemaker plans to add Petite Syrah and Vindoux, a dessert wine. Wilderotter’s wines are available only at the winery.
