Edna Valley Vineyard is a leading winery in the San Luis Obispo region. It features a dramatic hospitality facility.
The Paragon Vineyard was planted in the heart of Edna Valley in 1974. This was the first major investment in growing large quantities of premium wine grape varieties in this region. The winery was built six years later. Edna Valley’s reputation has flourished since.
As you enter the winery property the vineyards dominate your view. Outside the tasting center is a informative demonstration vineyard. 14 rows of vines are planted here. Each row displays either a different type of grape variety or trellis design. (Look for the nearby pamphlet explaining the details.)
You enter the tasting room through the tall glass doors. Here you are welcomed by the gift shop’s numerous displays wine related merchandise. You can find picnic baskets, aprons, gourmet food items, pottery, pepper grinders, logo clothing, cloth napkins, and an extensive offering of books on wine and food. You can also find lots of wine of course!
The tasting bar is set up against a wall of glass windows. The windows provide a dramatic panoramic view. The Paragon Vineyard and the volcanic peaks that dominate the view. The wonderful view makes this a great place to sample Edna Valley wines.
There is a private hospitality room in back. This has an attached gourmet kitchen. This can be used for food and wine seminars, weddings and community meetings.
Outside the back door of the tasting room is an expansive lawn. The lawn has a dozen tables that are complete with comfortable chairs and umbrellas. Regular events at the winery are Friday night “Wine Downs” and outdoor movie nights. Check the winery website for current events.
Edna Valley Vineyard is known for estate-grown Chardonnay. It recently expanded its winery operation to produce more red wines. The winery produces a wine range of varietals. You can sample many of these in the tasting room.
