The Aervana electric wine aerator is one of the newest options for introducing more oxygen into your wine. This cool little device is like a barroom tap on top of your wine bottle. So why would you need something like this?
A quick explanation of why we aerate wine:
Wine is essentially a stew of chemical compounds. Most of the compounds create beautiful aromas and tastes. The compounds are responsible for tricking our brains into smelling and tasting cherries, plum, cassis, tropical fruit, etc. when we drink wine.
Sadly, less enjoyable tastes and odors can happily lurk in oxygen-free confines of your wine bottle. Sulfites (used to preserve and protect the wine), Sulfides (natural compounds that have an unpleasant sulfur odor, and the beloved Ethanol (the alcohol that makes wine magical when properly balanced, but when to pronounced, will burn your nose and eyes). With exposure to air, these compounds all dissipate and you are left with a great tasting wine.
There is another great reason to let certain wines breath, tannin. Tannins naturally occur in the skin and stems of grapes. Certain wine varietals are often high in tannins. These tannins will mellow with age, but if you want to open a bottle that is still "young", the tannins can be overwhelming. They are bitter and dry out your mouth.
These wines are much more pleasurable to drink after an extended period of breathing. The Aervana wine aerator can mellow these wines out in an instant.
What makes the Aervana electric wine aerator unique?
This battery-powered wonder uses a patented design to force the perfect amount of air into the wine. The process is quick and there is no mess. You simply push the button on the top of the Aervana and it dispenses perfectly aerated wine.
Will you need this for every bottle of wine you open? The short answer is no. There are some wines that don't benefit much or at all from aeration. Most white wines and reds that are lighter-bodied don't need to be aerated.
But, is it more fun to pour every wine from an electric tap on top of the bottle? We think it is! So, go ahead and use it no matter what the wine is!
The best way to get a feel for the Aervana is to see it in action. Warning: you may begin to drool and look around for a glass of wine while watching.
