Bright Cellars Wine Club | Overview
Bright Cellars Wine Club was founded on the scientific fact that everyone has different experiences when tasting wine. Some people love experiencing bright fruity wines. While others enjoy more subtle and complex flavors when drinking wine. Bright Cellars helps you find your palate and then delivers wines that match what you enjoy.
Bright Cellars also believes that discovering new favorites is the best kind of fun. That's why we included them in our top 25 wine club options.
Take a wine quiz to see which wines match your palette.
Bright Cellars is a great buddy story. Two very smart and successful buddies. This pair of MIT grads were roommates who decided to create an algorithm for evaluating wine profiles. They realized that many wine buyers have no idea what they are buying or if they will like it. That's why the Bright Cellars wine algorithm was born.
When you join their club, you take a quiz that identifies the flavors and sensations you most enjoy. They then identify 18 attributes in their wines and use your quiz answers to pick 4 wines that best match your quiz answers. Then they send the winning 4 wines to you each month.
While you are enjoying the four bottles of wine they sent you, they are busy searching the wine world for unique wines. This search includes small vineyards in Italy, South America, and Spain where great wine values are found.
The Bright Cellars wine club staff then has the tough job of tasting all these unique wines. They choose only 1 out of every 12 that they taste to even consider for your monthly allotment.
They further refine their wine choices by letting you rate every wine they send you. Your ratings are fed back into your profile and used to help pick your next batch of wines. The process continues to identify the wines that you will enjoy the most.
All in all, we’d call it the rigorously fun approach to wine!

Alternative Wine Clubs | Bright Cellars Review
Bright Cellars is truly a first-class wine club, but we’ve compared it with two other excellent wine clubs just to give you more choices.
Bright Cellars Wine Club vs. Winc Wine Club
Here’s a wine club for those with a fondness for California wines. While Bright Cellars has some great domestic and international bottles in their collection, Winc Wine Club specializes in Californian bottles. That’s not to say that they don’t have wines from other countries as well. Major producers like France, Argentina, Italy, and Spain are all included. Also, Winc offers a relatively straightforward club experience at a really good price. For starters, you can pick up three bottles for as little as $35! Plus, they offer a $20 discount on your first four-bottle membership purchase, an excellent way to save a few bucks right at the start.
Another strong point of Winc is the personalization process. This is where this California wine club really stacks up well against Bright Cellars. Before your first purchase, they’ll ask you to create your taste profile by answering simple questions regarding your favorite taste, fruit, chocolate, and so on. The longer you remain in the club, the more refined your taste profile is going to get, and the more likely you’ll receive more refined bottles every month.
When it comes to rewards and discounts, Winc will let you buy wines a la carte with a 10% discount on any orders of a dozen or more bottles. Bright Cellars, on the other hand, offers generous bonus points that you can use for extra bottles.
Since both Bright Cellars and Winc have an excellent personalization system, allow delivery skipping, stock all sorts of wine, and stand behind the service, it’s really a dead heat between the two, all things considered. In the end, it’s going to come down to whether you’ve had your heart set on California wine or prefer to explore what’s out there. Also, Winc is more affordable than Bright Cellars, although their package is slightly smaller.
We’ve also compared the wine selection. Here, even though Winc offers a narrower selection in terms of geographical origin, they sure know how to make each wine stand out on their website. All of the bottles are presented in a clear and organized manner, something that Bright Cellars would do well to emulate, in our opinion.

Gold Medal Wine Club
We’re excited to introduce one of America’s oldest wine clubs. Gold Medal Wine Club has been around for almost 30 years, which gives them an apparent edge in terms of experience.
The best appeal of this wine club has to be its wide range of plans – six in total, including:
- Gold, starting at $40.95 for two bottles.
- Platinum, starting at $99 for three bottles.
- Diamond, starting at $188 for three bottles.
- International, starting at $79 for three bottles.
- Garagiste, starting at $69 for two bottles.
- Pinot Noir, starting at 79 for two bottles.
Each plan will include award-winning wines that you’ll have a hard time finding at any other club or store. And, as you can see, price-wise, these plans are friendly to every budget. If you prefer to tread gingerly, you can go with the two-bottle plan and see where it takes you. Needless to say, Gold Medal Wine Club’s array of plans is way more flexible than Bright Cellars’ sole four-bottle deal.
When it comes to personalization, Bright Cellars wins out due to their sophisticated personalization system that’s insanely accurate at pinpointing wines best suited to your taste. However, Gold Medal Club makes up the gap with its wide range of plans. If you so prefer, you can go for international wines, or pinot noir, or red wines, or a mixture of red and white. Also, all of their wines have gone through very strict selection criteria so you know you’re only getting the best.
Gold Medal Wine Club has a generous rewards program where you can get up to 40% off bottles of wine. Also, it lets you choose whether you want an ongoing membership or a one-time purchase.
Overall, things get pretty tight between the two wine clubs. They both offer a wide selection of wines, but Gold Medal Wine Club stocks only the highly rated ones. On the other hand, Bright Cellars might be a better choice for those who favor known taste over experimenting.
We strongly believe that you won’t regret trying any of these industry-leading wine clubs. You can learn more by reading our Gold Medal Wine Club review.
